Prosecutor named Shasta County Public Defender

A Shasta County senior prosecutor was named Tuesday by the Board of
Supervisors as the county's newest public defender.

William Stanley Bateman, who worked as a deputy public defender's
office before later landing a job as a prosecutor with the Shasta
County District Attorney's Office, replaces Jeff Gorder., who is
retiring June 1.

Bateman received his law degree from the University of Oklahoma
College of Law and was admitted to the California State Bar in 2002.
